Cherry pineapple soprano for Lucy

We are currently busy making a very nice looking pineapple-shaped soprano for Lucy (my partner, Sorcha's mum).

We are using some cherry wood I had in stock for a guitar for the top, back and sides, and mahogany for the neck.

The cherry does not have the best grain (not very tight), but Lucy is happy with it to enable the wood to be used, and as it's just going to be an everyday instrument. It may be finished with shellac to give it a slightly darker hue.

Luckily Lucy is a very easy customer to work with!

The top.

The sides in the mould, with kerfed lining glued on to make a surface for the top and back to sit on.

Lucy holding it all together: sides, top, back and neck.

Top glued to sides and trimmed. Bracing can be seen on the inside (cedar and spruce), with a mahogany bottom block. The top block is where the neck will be bolted on.
